Our Approach
How We Work
Newport Foundation runs its own programs. Rather than distribute grants and step back, we design, staff, and run the work ourselves, and we answer for the results. The principles below shape how we choose our work and how we hold ourselves to it.
We Operate, We Do Not Only Fund
We design and run our own programs rather than simply writing checks. We are accountable for the work itself, not only for financing it.
Rooted in Community
We build alongside the people we serve, following local knowledge and leadership rather than imposing solutions from the outside.
Built to Endure
Real change takes decades. We make long-term commitments and stay through the slow, unglamorous middle of the work, when most funders have moved on.
Measured by Outcomes
We hold our programs to evidence, tracking what actually changes for people and places, and adjusting honestly when something is not working.
Independent & Unconflicted
A permanent endowment lets us follow mission over fashion, free of commercial pressure or the need to chase the next headline.
Partnership at the Core
We multiply our impact by working with the schools, scientists, clinics, and cultural institutions already doing extraordinary work.
Ours is a promise to do the work, not merely to pay for it. Newport Foundation was built to keep that promise: to run programs directly, to stay rooted in the communities we serve, and to measure ourselves honestly against what actually changes. Our independence is deliberate. A permanent endowment frees us to follow the mission wherever it leads and to remain when the attention has moved elsewhere. We would rather be judged by outcomes a decade from now than by announcements today.
